I finally built an earth oven after years of thinking about
it, and it instantly became one of the most joyful parts of my life. I’ve been
baking from scratch since I was 8 years old. Let’s just say that’s more than
half a century ago. When I found myself surviving off the grid, I missed having
an oven almost more than anything else in my more modern life. Baking bread,
like soapmaking and natural perfumery, nourishes my spirit. So I
built myself this oven and now I am happily immersed in baking again. I fire it
up at least once a week and occasionally share my wood-fired delectables like pizza
and easy artisan bread here on the blog.
